Changing Mazda CX-5 key fob battery is a simple process that can make a big difference in your day-to-day driving experience. Mazda of Salem is here to help. Learn how to swap your batteries, and get the service you can rely on, at our dealership today.
Grab Your Tools
Before you get started, you’ll want to collect your tools and supplies. For this simple battery replacement, you’ll need a small flathead screwdriver and a replacement battery. Check your auto manual to verify the specific battery type, but for Mazda CX-5 key fobs, it is typically a CR2025 or CR2032 coin cell battery, which should be available at most hardware or auto parts stores.
Open the Key Fob
In order to open the key fob, you’ll first need to remove the mechanical key from the fob. There is a small release tab on the side of the key. Press it and the mechanical key will slide free. You should now see a seam connecting the two remaining parts of the fob. Use the flathead screwdriver to gently pry these two pieces apart.
Replace the Battery
Once you have pried the two pieces apart, you’ll be able to see your old battery. Pay attention to its orientation before removing it from the fob. Insert the replacement battery with the same orientation. Then you’ll simply follow the same process in reverse, putting the two sections together, before sliding the mechanical key back into place. Finally, test the fob to make sure it’s working.
